EMPOWERING PEOPLE
TO FIND
THEIR REAL PICTURE
This bloggspot is a blend of my profession (counseling) and my hobby (photography). A photographer's main goal is to capture THE REAL PICTURE with his camera. A person's main goal in life is to find THE REAL PICTURE of his/her life. I believe counseling is the ideal tool to empower people as they search for their true identity, the real self, THE REAL PICTURE. This search is a journey, a process that we experience as we strive for peace and harmony in ourselves, our families and our relationships with others. Often times we get caught up in wanting people (including ourselves), places and things to be perfect, and create an exhausting quest we can never achieve in our human state. I believe in progress, not perfection.
If an individual is ready to begin this journey, my counseling style and techniques can empower one to find THEIR REAL PICTURE. We, as humans, live in a box of space and time and these two variables are constantly changing. Because of this, our search is an ongoing process.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist(LMFT) and a National Certified Counselor. I received a Bachelor's degree in Family and Community Living and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from LSU.
I've worked in private practice at Evergreen Wellness Center in Metairie, LA, as well as a counselor at O'Brien House in Baton Rouge. O'Brien House is a half-way house for alcoholics and drug addicts. My responsibilities included counseling the clients to empower them to maintain sobriety as they transitioned from treatment to becoming responsible, productive individuals, using the treatment model based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
For the last 6 years, I worked as a counselor with the National Guard Youth Challenge Program in Carville, LA. YCP is a residential program, military style environment for at-risk youth, ages 16-18, who are the greatest risk for substance abuse, teen pregnancy, delinquency, and criminal activity. The program leads, trains and mentors at-risk youth so that they may become productive citizens in America's future. The success stories are stunning. The experience and knowledge I gained from working with this population was truly an eye-opener, causing me to realize how many challenges our young people face in today's society. Because of this experience, my focus in private practice is working with adolescents and their families. Hopefully, I can be instrumental in empowering some of today's youth to find THEIR REAL PICTURE.
